Traditional shaving just got even better. I have already reduced the amount of disposable material and daily cost in my shaving routine by going with a tradition safety razor with a single double edge blade. Now, thanks to this little device, I can sharpen my blades and reuse them. It is a pull cord double edge blade sharpener.
You just clip your used blade onto the pegs, close the lid and pull the cord a few times. The cord spins the pegs in little orbits which passes both sides of the blade over the interlocking sharpening element which has the right angle to sharpen the blade back to good as new condition.I used it for the first time this morning and the blade felt brand new. It is simple and effective. I also love that the sharpener itself has access screws so you can get inside and clean or replace the parts.

ReplyDeleteI know that Lehman's sells a sharpener for disposable razors and they sell straight razors and supplies, but where can I find this gem, and do they make one for single edge blades?
You might want to mention its an antique from Germany. I found this one on ebay. I also found it interesting that this was more popular during WWII to save metal and hence, contribute to the war effort. But alas postwar america was on the way to easy street and disposable was the new paradigm.

ReplyDeleteUpdate: It turns out I am getting good but inconsistent results with the sharpener (anywhere between 3 to 8 shaves per blade). I think I get best results when I put the blade in the sharpener, apply light, even pressure to keep it closed and pull the cord steadily through about 10 times.
ReplyDeleteI tried flipping the blade and pulling more times and more quickly but those methods didn't seem to work as well.
Our best safety razor are one of the most effective razors available in market. If someone want to get the ultimate classic experience while shaving then he must use it.

ReplyDeletePeople like to use new technology. But for shaving I always choose the old and traditional way. The safety razor is a old and traditional shaving tool. Its provide me the most closer and smoother shave with less irritation. The safety razor also helps to prevent razor burn. Best safety razor
