Ever since I was a kid, my parents would load up the car and haul our family to Underwood Family Farms in Moorpark to pick out a pumpkin for Halloween. Now, I take my kids there...

to enjoy tractor rides with grandparents...

and take on the corn maze.
Underwood Family Farm's pumpkin patch, so different from the small one of my youth, continues to delight the young and young at heart.
I hear this place is great! A lovely book for little kids about growing pumpkins is From Seed to Pumpkin by Wendy Pfeffer. It's one of the HarperTrophy Let's-Read-And-Find-Out Science books. These are wonderful, illustrated science books, ranked by age.
