Tending to the Native Garden

The weather has been lovely. I find myself stealing more time from other projects to tend to the garden. Our native garden has gone wild. Although we mulch heavily, weeds still flourish. I've been claiming more time in the yard to pull weeds.

I think it's just about time for an outdoor fire to celebrate reclaiming the garden. There is still a lot of weeding to do, but so far it's been pretty easy to pull thanks to the heavy mulch layer. We recently got another shipment. I look forward to spreading it around and preparing the garden for the transition to summer.

  1. I like your native garden, and your fire circle. That looks like a fun way to pretend you're camping.

  2. Looking good post-weeding! we're doing the same with our yard. BTW if you need any Eriogonum giganteum, let me know, ours self-seeded like crazy. We're going to have to yank up a bunch of them.

  3. The Before photos are comforting. Quite glad to see other people get feet of weeds - it's quite a feat to conquer them when you don't have much native planting going on (hopefully this will change for me next year!).

(new reader by the way, love your blog, so incredibly inspiring!)

  4. Thanks for the kind comments!
@ StephCat - yes ours too. I'm almost beginning to think of it as a weed. Our encelia californica too.

@ Natalie yes, totally agree. in fact we bit the bullet and planted a large area of the yard all at once bc we couldn't deal with it. Even now keeping it clean around the edges is still a big job.
